Adaptation of the short form of the need for cognitive closure scale into Turkish
Main Article Content
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to adapt the 15-item Need for Cognitive Closure Short Form, developed by Roets and Van Hiel (2011), into Turkish and to examine its construct validity in a Turkish sample. This adaptation process resulted in the development of a psychometrically stronger and more culturally appropriate version of the scale. The study was conducted with data collected from two independent samples of university students (N1=350, N2=425). Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), conducted on the data from the first group (N1=350), revealed a 12-item unidimensional structure that explained 31.45% of the total variance, following the removal of 3 items with low factor loadings. This final structure obtained via EFA was tested with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) on a second, independent sample (N2=425) and was confirmed, demonstrating excellent fit indices (χ²/df = 1.879, CFI = .972, RMSEA = .046). The Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency coefficients for the scale were calculated as .794 and .823 for the two groups, respectively. The findings indicate that the 12-item Turkish Need for Cognitive Closure Short Form developed in this study is a valid and reliable measurement instrument for use in the Turkish sample.
