Abstract

A growing body of literature is pointing out that obese and overweight adolescents are subjected to serious and prevalent physical, social, medical, and psychological consequences. To provide richer literature about the lived experiences of obese and overweight students, this qualitative study was conducted.  This phenomenological study aims to explore the lived experiences of obese and overweight students (OOS) in Cainta Senior High School. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to gather data from eight purposively-chosen respondents. Collaizi’s seven-step method was then utilized to analyze the data collected from focus group discussion (FGD).  Data explicitation revealed the development of four themes. It may be helpful to educate individuals involved in stigma reduction interventions such as teachers, friends, and/or family members. Establishing a Fitness Club which will involve OOS to ensure the adequacy of physical activities in school is imperative. For future researchers, a qualitative study must also be done on why losing weight is difficult.
